How to outsmart traffic!!

I tried to go Downtown LA a couple of weeks ago and it took me almost 2 hours which even for crazy traffic here is a lot!!! A friend of mine told me to download the app called Waze. It is literally a huge time saver! It gives you the best route to get you to your destination and adapts along the way if traffic gets too busy!!! I believe it works everywhere, not just here!

Côte!!!

This is my month of discoveries! One of my amazing friend just opened up a nail salon in Brentwood and created her own non toxic polish brand called Côte!! I tried it out and felt as if I was in South of France somewhere. The decor is flawless, service is great, it is not too expensive and you even get a glass of rosé during the treatment!!! They sell a bunch of fun products and books and candles! I think this is just the beginning of a great adventure as other location are schedule to open soon!

Amazing smells!!

I just found out that Dyptique opened up a boutique in Los Angeles, I can't wait to go and try it out!!! These products are perfectly balanced, the smell is subtle enough that it floats into the house without being too present! I think the candles Figuier and Baies are my favorites!!!!

Heads up!!!!

It is an app on my iPhone and the whole family loves it! It is the fun and hilarious game from Ellen DeGeneres that she plays on her show. From naming celebrities, to singing, to silly accents, guess the word on the card that's on your head from your friends' clues before the timer runs out!
Between kids parties or adults one, this game has brought lots of fun and excitement! Even my 4 years old enjoys playing with it!!!!

Yummy gluten free chocolate brownies!!!

It is not completely guilt free because it still has some kind of sugar it is, but let's say this is as "healthy" as can be! I learned it from my cooking class with Pamela Salzman (I've written about her before, you should check her blog weekly, so interesting!)
It will seem strange because it has zucchini in it, but believe me that kids have no clue about that and they thought it was the best chocolate cake ever!!!
Anyway, here is the recipe:
1 cup of creamy almond butter
1/3 cup of maple syrup or raw honey
1/4 raw cacao
1/4 tsp fine sea salt
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp of baking soda
1 1/2 cups of shredded zucchini
1 cup of dark or semi sweet chic chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. grease 9x9 inch pan.
Combine almond butter, maple syrup, cacao powder, salt, egg, vanilla and baking soda until smooth. Stir in zucchini and chocolate chips. Pour into pan and bake for approx 35-45 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.

Enjoy while it is warm!! It is so yummy I am going to bake another one right now :)

She wears them with leggings, skirts, dresses, jeans, etc… With the wedding and communion season coming soon, it is worth having a look! I love their new spring colors. They have a great web site!!

Cameron Diaz's new book!

I always buy these kind of books, I mean who wouldn't want to look like that at 40!!!! I don't agree with everything it says and I don't change my whole world upside down! Nonetheless I like reading about what is healthy and good for you. I find that having that kind of knowledge about your body in the back of your mind is interesting! Let's see where it takes me!!!!

Mardi Gras!!

This year Mardi Gras is on March 5th, we have fun plans coming up! We will be making  masks as a craft, and I will bake some crepes and beignets for the kids!!! So much fun and such nice memories from my childhood!!!
Here are a few ideas fro the masks that I found on Pinterest:

For the Crepes, this was my grandmother's recipes:

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter, melted
DIRECTIONS:
1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and the eggs. Gradually add in the milk and water, stirring to combine. Add the salt and butter; beat until smooth.
2. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each crepe. Tilt the pan with a circular motion so that the batter coats the surface evenly.
3. Cook the crepe for about 2 minutes, until the bottom is light brown. Loosen with a spatula, turn and cook the other side. Serve hot.

And for the beignets, from all the recipes I tried, this was came close to perfection:

ingredients
3/4 cup whole milk
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
4 teaspoons active dry yeast
2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
3 1/2 cups bread flour plus extra for flouring work surface
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
Peanut oil for frying
Confectioners' sugar for serving, as much as you think you'll need—then double that!
preparation
Heat the milk in a small saucepan over medium-high heat until small bubbles form at the surface. Remove from the heat, add the buttermilk, and then pour into a stand mixer bowl. Whisk in the yeast and the sugar and set aside for 5 minutes. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt, and mix on low speed, using a dough hook, until the dry ingredients are moistened, 3 to 4 minutes. Increase the mixer speed to medium and continue mixing until the dough forms a loose ball and is still quite wet and tacky, 1 to 2 minutes longer. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and set the dough aside in a draft-free spot for 1 hour.
Pour enough peanut oil into a large pot to fill it to a depth of 3 inches and bring to a temperature of 375°F over medium heat (this will take about 20 minutes). Line a plate with paper towels and set aside.
Lightly flour your work surface and turn the dough out on it. Sprinkle the top of the dough with flour, gently press to flatten, fold it in half, and gently tuck the ends under to create a rough-shaped round. Dust again and roll the dough out into a ½-inch- to ¹/³ -inch-thick circle. Let the dough rest for 1 minute before using a chef's knife, a bench knife, or a pizza wheel to cut the dough into 1 1/2-inch squares (you should get about 48).
Gently stretch a beignet lengthwise and carefully drop it into the oil. Add a few beignets (don't overcrowd them, otherwise the oil will cool down and the beignets will soak up oil and be greasy) and fry until puffed and golden brown, turning them often with a slotted spoon, for 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer to the prepared plate to drain while you cook the rest. Serve while still warm, buried under a mound of confectioners' sugar, with hot coffee on the side.
Make ahead:
The beignet dough can be made up to 8 hours in advance of frying. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray it with nonstick cooking spray. After cutting the dough, place the beignets on the paper and place another greased sheet of parchment paper, sprayed-side down, on top. Wrap the entire baking sheet with plastic wrap and refrigerate. The beignets can be fried straight from the refrigerator.

We stay on the health path!!!!!

I like this new health path that I have taken so far!!! I am still sticking to my new year resolution to try and cook as healthy a possible!
I had a cooking class yesterday with Pamela Sazlman and it was so yummy! She is very health conscious and is able to cook delicious food! We had flourless and vegan chocolate brownies, they were probably among the best I have ever had! We had minestrone soup, chopped antipasti salad and brisket with mashed cauliflower and potatoes!!! I ate way too much off course, but I enjoyed it a lot!
She has a web site that you should definitely check out:

Healthy Blog!

January is usually my good resolution month when I decide to  throw away all the junk food that is in my pantry (which I can assure you is not much)!!! I always look out for the new cleanse (which I am doing right now, day 2!!!!) or a new diet or new ways to eat right!
I just discovered this blog called Deliciously Ella and fell in love with it! It is full of healthy recipes! These kind of blogs can be overwhelming sometimes and even not attractive. Here I want to eat everything, it looks so yummy and for once I don't have to feel guilty about it, it is good for me!!!
This beautiful girl started it a year ago and is posting all the time! She is even working on an app, can't wait to see it!
Check it out, you will love it as well!!! See below my new morning breakfast!!!!

Fairy Bread!!

I had to go cooking with my 4 year old class yesterday! I never know what to do because everyone has to participate so it has to be easy enough that they can do it! I 've tried cookies that we put in "magic oven" so they are ready in 30 seconds. The down side is that it is  double the work for me and I don't always have the time! So my son and I decided to do fairy bread! It is basically bread with Nutella or butter on it and any kinds of sprinkles on it! I know it is a lot of sugar but they loved it, had the best time and ate all of it! It was definitely a success!

I am back from Hawaii!!

Happy New Year! I just got back from Hawaii and had the best time ever! While we were there I got y kids vacation journals.  They had to take 10 minutes everyday and write and draw something in it! They thought it was fun! I thought it was educational so everyone was happy :) Plus it is a great souvenir that we can look at all together!
I found them on amazon, there are so many options, but these 2 were my favorites and age appropriate for my kids:

Eco Friendly Christmas!!

I just heard that you can buy or rent living Christmas trees!!! I already bought mine this year, but I love the idea and this is definitely something I wanna try next year. There are a couple companies that have started this business. They offer different  heights and varieties of trees. They deliver it to your house and will pick it up when you're done with it! This is eco friendly and keeps the Christmas tradition at the same time! I like this much better than fake or pretend trees you see sometimes! There is nothing more Christmasy than the smell of pines in the house!!!!
This is so far the best web site I could find!

Baking time!

I read about this bakery called Duff's Cakemix in Los Angeles. You can sign in for class or just buy a cake. If you take a class, you bake and learn how to decorate like a pro! This is a fun way to rock at your next dinner party! I love it…This is on my wish list for Christmas present!

My Kids' favorite 5 fun things to do in Los Angeles!!!

Color me mine
This is perfect for a rainy day and Holidays presents!!! All my 3 kids enjoy going there...

Zimmer Children Museum
If you ask my 4 years old what does he want to do when there is no school, he will ask to go there! He loves it and has been there like a dozen times already. It is very visual and interactive. Check their web site for more information.

Natural History Museum
This one is a winner with all kids, doesn't matter gender or age! Plus it is educational and parent enjoy going there as well!!! They offer so many interactive activities, kids

Giggles' N Hugs
It offers an upscale, family-friendly atmosphere with a dedicated play area that children 10 and younger absolutely love. The place also have a restaurant featuring high-quality menus made from fresh and local foods, nightly entertainment such as magic shows, concerts, puppet shows and face painting, and hugely popular party packages for families that want to do something special.

Sky High Sports
It is a fun trampoline center…It is indoors, convenient for cooler or rainy days…
Kids love it and it wears them out! Might be more suitable for older kids….

I hope it will help you to keep the little ones busy when winter breaks start in a couple of weeks!!!

Get ready for the Holiday Season!!!

I just read about a local pressed juice chain (I know, another one!!!) Moon Juice who offers what they call the "support package". It is apparently designed the prevent and alleviate all the down sides that come along with the holiday meals… If you drink all 4 bottles and take 2 probiotic shots throughout the week, you'll feel the difference. I have to admit that I haven't tried it yet, but will definitely do as I wanna survive the coming month and a half!!! I like that for once it is prevention rather than dieting and feeling guilty in January!
